Sox Plate 87 Runs in 4 Games at Provincials!
The DMBA Rookie Select Team was hot all weekend in Thorndale, as part of the Rookie division of the SOBA Championships.

The tournament began on Friday at 4:30, when the Black Sox met Ancaster in the first round.
Dorchester was strong throughout the game, on both sides of the ball.  Johnson, Stevens, and Hutson each scored three times, as Mercer, Henderson, Tubman, and Stiles each cross the plate twice.
The Sox would eventually win in 4 innings, 20-4, and felt confident going into their second game against a strong team from Leaside.
Game two turned into a football game, as both sides were very strong offensively. Down 15-6 after four innings, the Black Sox decided that it was time to turn on the jets.  Scoring just one run in the first two outs, it was a show of determination and character, as the boys plated 10 more runs to take a 17-15 lead.
The incredible run included 12 consecutive hits from Stiles, Wright, Mercer, Stevens, Johnson, Henderson, Hutson, Arnold, Tubman, Richardson, Strom, and McMillan.
More magic was to come in the bottom of the 7th.  Down 27-22 with one out in the bottom of the 7th, Strom, McMillan, Morrison, and Stiles hit safely, as Wright grounded into a fielder's choice.  With the score now 27-26 with two out, Mercer got on base.  Stevens scored Mercer and moved to third on a double from Johnson.
Now 27-27, Henderson came to the plate and rocked a deep fly ball to left field to easily score Stevens from third, and the game was over!  Black Sox 28, Leaside 27.  Henderson homered and tripled in the game, as Mercer added a triple of his own.
Next up....a strong team from Royal York.  Strom, McMillan, and Morrison each scored three times, and the entire team played great defense, as the boys took a 20-19 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning.  It was not meant to be, as the Cardinals plated the 2nd and winning run with one out, and handed the Sox their first loss of the tournament, 21-20.
This set up a rematch between DMBA and Leaside.  Although the magic was still with the boys on offense, it turned out to be a rough game defensively.  Giving up 8 runs in the top half of the first, the Sox answered with 5 of their own in the bottom.  McMillan and Morrison would hit and score in the second, and Mercer later reached based with two out.  Stevens hit a two-run shot to centre field to bring the score to 11-9 for Leaside.  It was back and forth from there, and the Sox scored in every inning.  There were a few defensive gems from Arnold, Johnson, and Strom, and an exciting out at the plate from Stevens to McMillan, but the defense was not quite strong enough to slow the offense from Leaside.  The Sox ended a spectacular season, losing 25-19.
Congratulations to these 13 boys for finishing 5th at the provincial championships!
