Championship Sunday
For the 2nd straight Year the Diamondbacks were off to the Finals of the Cardinal Classic.
This years opponent was their nemesis down the highway the London Tecumsehs. The Dbacks put their ace on the hill by starting Colin Langstaff and were hoping he could hold down a good offense. The Diamondbacks struck 1st with a run as they hope to do as Sam Willsie led off the game with a BB and stole two bases and managed to cash in on a PB by the catcher to take that early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately the Tecumseh sluggers struck back with 2 runs of their own with a 3B and FC ground out to take the lead back 2-1 after 1 inning of play.
The 2nd inning both teams were held in check by some fine pitching by both starters, Langstaff striking out 2 and the opposing pitcher striking out the side.
The 3rd inning saw the Diamondbacks capitalize on a lead off single by Wade Devine and some Tecumseh miscues to score two runs and take the lead. However that lead was short lived as the London bounced back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning and went back out in front 4-3.
In the 4th inning the Dbacks lost Left Fielder Jaxson Cragg for a couple months due to being hit by pitch and fracturing his left elbow. The boys failed to put up any offense after losing their teammate. The Tecumseh's stormed ahead in their half of the 4th scoring 4 runs off Colin Langstaff and reliever Lucas Wilson to take a commanding lead of 8-3.
The 5th went quietly for both sides, however in the 6th the Dbacks were able to add a run to close to 8-4 but in the bottom of the 6th the London team followed up with two more runs to put the game to bed with a 10-4 final and the Championship.
Overall the weekend was a success the boys played so well against larger centers and have a lot to look forward to moving ahead in the season.
