Diamondbacks Get First Win in Season Opener
The D-Backs showed tremendous poise as they battled in a close game against a strong Strathroy team.
Isaiah Wallace should be proud as our first pitcher of the season, recording the first two outs, including his own play on a ground ball thrown to 1st base. The two teams traded 8 runs apiece in the opening frame, and we were in for a battle. It went back and forth from there. Colin McMillan recorded the team's first triple of the year, and Johnson/Stevens combined for a fine groundball out in the 4th. Pettit demonstrated superior offense at the plate and on the bases, recording two hits and a steal of home plate. Each Diamondback reached base and recorded a stolen base on the evening, en route to a 16-15 decision. The home team did not need to bat in their home half of the 5th, as time expired. Bo Mercer receives player of the game honours for his pitching performance, and excellent demonstration of what we have been learning in practice. Arnold and McMillan did a fine job as our two catchers for the home/season opener. Kudos to Johnson for three super innings on the mound as well! Next up is a visit to Ingersoll on May 11th.
Way to go boys!
