TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Our tournaments are usually set up as pool play resulting in the pool leaders moving on to a playoff round.
TOURNAMENT RULES
The rules of Major League Baseball, Baseball Ontario (OBA), OBA RQ2 approved rules of Rookie Ball will apply with the following
notes:
1. OBA line-up cards and score sheets will be used. The home team will be the official
scorekeeper and the visiting team will be the pitch count recorder. Lineups should be
exchanged at least 10 minutes before game time.
2. All teams are required to provide their Team’s Roster Number & Call-up Team’s Roster
Number, as assigned by Baseball Ontario. Failure to do so will result in a fine by Baseball
Ontario. Have a copy of your roster on hand in case a player’s eligibility comes into
question.
3. Teams must also track their own pitch counts. Managers must sign the sheets, verifying
the number of pitches, at the end of the game. The sheets must be returned to the
convenor for verification. This is very important!!!!!
4. In case of rain and/or other delays the tournament schedule may be revised at the
convenor’s discretion.
5. Games will be 7 innings in length (6.5 innings if the home team is winning). No new
inning will start after 1 hour and 45 minutes have elapsed from the time of the first
pitch. The umpire should notify both teams and the scorekeeper of the time of the first
pitch. If the home team is winning and is at bat when the time limit is reached, the
game will be stopped. The score at the time of the stoppage will be recorded as the
official score.
6. A 7 inning game is an official game after 5 innings or 4 1/2 if the home team is ahead. If
a game is stopped after being an official game it is completed and if prior to becoming an official game it is suspended.
7. Tied games will be allowed to stand in pool play. There will be NO extra innings in pool
play. There is no time limit in any semi-final or championship game.
8. The home team for each game will be determined by a coin toss, with the team who
traveled the farthest making the call.
9. There will be no pre-game warm-ups on the infield. Please use the outfield grass or
other safe areas if time permits.
10. An 18 run mercy rule will apply after 3 innings (2 ½ if the home team is ahead), 15 runs
after 4 innings (3 1/2 if the home team ahead1 and a 10 run mercy rule will apply after 5 innings (4 ½ if the home team is ahead).
11. The decision of the umpire(s) is final. Protests will be resolved on the field by the
Protest Committee. To file a protest, a fee of $50 cash must be paid to the Protest
Committee prior to being heard. Time will stop when the protest is made and will begin
again, once it is resolved.
12. The score of a forfeited game will be recorded as 7-0 after 5 innings.
13. Tournament awards are set at 15 per team (20 at the Bantam, Midget and Junior

damages or losses to anyone during the tournament.

the Umpires during a game regardless of what numbers (Pitch Counts) any

pitcher as recorded by the “Official Pitch Counter” at the conclusion of each
inning.

conclusion of the game acknowledging the Pitch Counts of the pitchers used
during that game. In the event of a discrepancy in numbers, the Pitch Counts of
