18U Rep D-Backs win Cardinal Classic
After a tough loss on opening night the 18U Rep D-Backs locked it down and went 4-0 the rest of the way to capture their first tournament win of the season.
The Diamondbacks lost a close one 3-2 against the Markham Mariners on Friday night, then battled back to beat the St.Thomas Cardinals and West Mountain in their Final Round Robin games. They faced the Lucan-Ilderton A's Sunday morning in the semi-final and won convincingly with a score of 14-1 to earn the right to face the Burlington Bulls who had equally impressive win of 14-0 over the Markham Mariners.
In the final the games was back and forth until to the 4th inning where the Bulls finally broke through for 3 runs ~ the D-Backs managed to answer back with 1 of their own in the bottom of the inning. In the 5th the Diamondbacks managed to hold Burlington to 0 runs and managed to strike with 4 of their own to go up 5-3 going to the 6th inning.
In the 6th the Bulls scratched out a run to make it 5-4 but the Diamondbacks got that run back in the bottom of the 6th to take a 2 run lead into the 7th. Mark Nicholson who came in as reliever managed to shut the door the rest off the way for the Championship.
It was a great weekend for the team that say every player contribute in one way or another at the plate, in the field or on the on mound.
