Black Sox Lose a Nailbiter in 7
A three-run, seventh inning rally was all they needed, and it looked very possible, but it was not meant to be.

The DMBA Rookie Selects looked superb on the night.  Having just Learned and practiced two new skills, the boys had a chance to try them out right away!  We worked on rundowns and tag-force plays.  Mercer and Hutson looked really sharp as they trapped a Stratford runner between 2nd and 3rd.  The runner managed to get back to 2nd, but the rundown lasted for an eternity.  A very nice looking play it was!  Adding to the great defense were a heads-up play by Johnson in left, forcing a runner out at 2nd, a similar play by Strom in Left Centre, a 2-out inning by Wright at pitcher, and an inning where Morrison was at second for all three outs!  On the offensive side, it was magic.  Against a very strong Stratford team, it was 4-4 after 1, 6-6 after 2, and 12-7 after 3 for the Sox.  The visiting Indians put together a super strong 4th inning, scoring the 7 run max to make it 14-12 after 4 frames. Offensive highlights included a 5 for 5 night for Stevens, including a home run, a homer by Johnson, triples by Arnold and Wright, a beauty double my McMillan, and 4 for 4 performances by Richardson, Mercer, and Tubman. Henderson also hit well and scored twice, despite not feeling well.  It was about as well as the boys have played!  Cheers!
Morrison led off the 7th with a hard single, and ran hard to force a tough play.  The resulting overthrow sent him to second.  But the Sox could not score, as the Indians made a couple of nice fly ball outs to stop any threat.
Tournament time this weekend in Thorndale!  See the young Sox play at 9, 1 or 5 on Saturday in Thorndale!
