Visit to Ingersoll Proves Fruitful for the Sox
The DMBA Rookie Select team came home with a "W" after a well-played game against a strong minor rookie team from Ingersoll.
The offense was consistently effective for the Black Sox, capped by a three-run homer off the bat of Henderson, as the Sox crossed the plate a total of 35 times over 6 innings. But it was truly the defensive gems on this night that kept the crowd excited. With bases loaded, Morrison played a ball cleanly in Left Centre, and gunned down an Ironbird at 2nd for the force. Arnold was particularly strong, with a couple of blocked balls, and traps out of the dirt at 2nd. Hutson saved Stevens with a scoop out of the dirt at first. Strom got us out of a tough inning with a fine play from the pitching spot. Tubman held a couple of opposing players to long singles with extreme hustle in the outfield. Johnson punctuated the team's defensive effort when, with nobody out, and runners on 1st and 2nd, a sharp ground ball was hit to him at 3rd. He touched third and threw to Arnold at 2nd for a double-play! Next up for the Sox is yet to be determined, as Exeter has recently cancelled for next week.
