Sox Get Big Lead, Lose Nailbiter
In their third and final round-robin game, the Sox looked strong early, as they played to a 12-3 lead after 4 innings.
But the North Toronto team proved resilient, as they battled back to win a nailbiter in the bottom of the 7th, 14-13. Mercer scored in the Sox half of the 7th inning to give the Black Sox a one-run "cushion". But with one out, a runner on third, and the game tied at 13 in the bottom of the seventh, the Sox were poised to prevent the winning run. A hard-hit ball through the right side allowed the Toronto runner to race for home. Stevens made a brilliant throw from right field to McMillan at the plate, but it was just late, and the Blue Jays stole the game after an impressive comeback. The DMBA Rookie Selects enjoyed stellar defensive plays by McMillan, Strom, Johnson, and a pair by Mercer to stay close with the North Toronto team the entire game.
The boys played well enough to guarantee a two-game Sunday in their first ever all-select tournament!
Looking forward to tomorrow!
